PGCE equivalent courses in the UK

The Diploma in Education and Training is equivalent to the PGCE qualification. The PGCE qualification is no longer a mandatory legal requirement to hold in UK schools. And especially in Academy status schools in the UK. There is also no funding of the ‘QTLS’ by the UK government and now the only requirement is an inspection of teachers qualifications and CPD routes that lead to ‘QTLS’ via certain organisations. If you want to know more about the changes to the UK education system and how our DET qualification replaces the PGCE then contact us to discuss further. Our online DET course with a mentoring package is roughly £7000 cheaper than say a 1 year full time University PGCE course. We also offer interest free loans unlike the governments student loan scheme that charges students interest on what they borrow. .Oh and you don’t have to wear a silly hat and gown once you have completed our DET course.

Do I need a PGCE to qualify as a teacher in England?

No – you only need QTS, which you achieve on successfully completing all university- and school-led training routes. The PGCE is an additional qualification you can gain alongside QTS (Department for Education website, 2017).
